Attending any church for the 1st time can be quite daunting and will raise many questions. if you are considering coming along on a Sunday morning we hope that you will find an answer to your Questions below:
- What time should I arrive? Our service starts at 11am each Sunday and lasts about a hour. Most people will start arriving from 10:45. If you are running late please don’t worry, just come in when you arrive. God invented Time, but Man invented Time Management. It’s more important to be there than to be there on time.
- What shall I wear? Keeping to “Sunday Best” for Church is no longer a thing. Whatever you feel comfortable in is just fine. Be aware that if you decide on swimwear, or come dressed as a StormTrooper, then there may be some glances in your direction though. Remember at the end of the day God won’t mind what you wear. It’s more important to be there than to conform to a dress code.
- Can I bring my kids? Of course you can. We welcome children to church, and famously of course Jesus himself loved children to be around. If, or should I say when, your child gets bored, we have a children’s activity area at the back of the church and you are welcome to sit there or take the resources back to your seat. If your child is young enough to cry when hungry, or in need of attention please do not think you are disturbing anybody. The only people that think a crying baby needs to be taken out of church are the parents. It is more important for children to be there and be comforted.
- Where shall I sit? We are all creatures of habit and most people tend to sit in the same place every week. But nobody will mind if you are sat in “their seat”. The days when congregations rented “family pews” are thankfully well behind us. Our door stewards will be more than happy to show you to a place if you ask in any case. It is probably best, if you are 1st time with us, to sit behind other people so you know the “right times” to stand or sit, though again God doesn’t care if you sit when everybody else remains standing. It’s more important to be there than to be sat in the “right place “… or to sit at the “right time”.
- Do I have to sing? We normally have 5 hymns per service. It is natural to be self conscious singing in public, especially to unknown tunes. Not everybody in Church is blessed with a perfect singing voice, and no one will mind if you lip synch or just read the words silently. It’s more important to be there than to sing in tune.
- Will there be a collection? Like most churches we rely on Sunday collection plate to survive and so a plate is brought round each week. However what each person gives is between that person and God. If God is happy with each person’s giving then who else can judge? It’s more important to be there than to give the “right” money.
